The download process is as simple as the purchase and shouldnt be a Problem.Īfter the dowload has finished it will be displayed in white and the dowload button says now PLAY. to do this double click on FSX or do a single click and select dowload at the top. It will be greyed out because you didnt dowloaded it already. Just type in Flight and you will see the FSX in the drop down (sry u call it bar?).Īfter you done this go back to the Libary and you will spot FSX on the middle left. On the top (again ) left you will find a searchbox. In the Steam application click on STORE at the top left. when i go to the desktop via alt+F4 my Boxed Version always CTD but the SE Edition not ). Editions and many improvments referring to bugs/glitches and all that stuff. This Version contains, like sombody said before, all service packs, the expansions of the Prof. At the time FSX-SE costs 20 Euros (dont know how much dollars atm). TA DAA: now you are a "gamer" joined the steam community. create an account (as well not very difficult)

Dowload Steam : (at the top right klick install steam)ģ. I think I understand the downsides of the Steam system, but it's really the only option right? (Especially if it's on sale for $5.00) Unless I find a used DVD set of FSx Gold for really cheap!ĭo I just keep visiting regularly and wait for that $5.00 sale to pop up before Christmas? Anyone remember about how long before Christmas do they typically do the sale and how long did they run that price? I don't want to miss it!ġ. So since there is NO other way to get this version and all other offers just sell activation codes, I should stay away from them and just wait for that $5.00 deal from (since it's so close to Christmas). This very important info should be on a Sticky just for us Newbies that are still shopping! Thanks for clearly explaining that all Steam games are sold and downloaded from and the only way to get FSxSE is to download the Steam client first and then buy from the site. Where are people getting this $5.00 deal? Is this the CD keys I see being advertised for $5.99? If so, how are those guys asking $20 and up getting any sales? Does Dovetail have a direct site to buy it from and it goes on sale for $5.00 or something? Is FSxSE sold as a download, where you download it and then activate it, so what you're buying is really an activation key? Or is there an actual DVD that you buy that then goes online and downloads the bulk of the files? I see $5.99 CD keys being sold, yet I also see ads from places like MyPilotStore and eBay sellers advertising what looks like a DVD case for $20 to $25, and I read in this forum that people have bought it for $5.00, hence my confusion. So my first question is, for someone who is buying FSx for the first time, there's no reason to get the old DVD version is there? Especially for the price! There's no real downside to SE is there? I understand you need to be online when you first start it or something, but if you're playing standalone after that initial online contact you can lose your online connection because it runs standalone after that? I also find FSxSE for about $24 direct from and eBay sellers. I see FSx Gold in DVD on eBay for around $130.00 USD.

I'm wanting to use FSx primarily for training (planning on getting a yoke, throttle quadrant, etc.) Steam is a platform, right? And it's free, you just have to install it? I'm using Win7 and/or Ubuntu 14.04 (I can dual boot) on a Quad Core i7 machine if that makes any difference. I understand what the Steam Edition (SE) is from Dovetail and how it differs (or is essentially the same as) the Gold edition from Microsoft, but I'm not a gamer and don't exactly understand what Steam is. Ok, I'm obviously a newbie and I hate to ask such a basic question, but where / how do I purchase FSx? I did a search first and didn't find an answer.
